
Expert Comment: Online Safety Bill - a missed opportunity?

The Online Safety Bill is back before Parliament for its third reading. Given the potential for further amendments, it is hard to be sure of the final result, but the journey to date has exposed serious weaknesses which it will be hard to fix at this late stage. There has to be a worry this is going to be a missed opportunity to tackle the perceived problems of online harms, protect adults and children – and create a robust system of regulation that will actually achieve what is intended.
