Fireside chat with Mr Paul Khoo Boon Hui on the work of INTERPOL

On 31 August 2021, the Society was honoured to have Mr Paul Khoo Boon Hui deliver a virtual Fireside Chat on the work of INTERPOL

Mr Khoo was the first Singaporean President of INTERPOL from 2008-2012 as well as the Commissioner of the Singapore Police Force from 1997 to 2010.  Thereafter, he was Senior Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs.  He was instrumental in the establishment of the INTERPOL Global Complex for Innovation Building in Singapore with a dedicated centre to fight cybercrime and continues to contribute to the work of INTERPOL through its various Working Groups.

Mr Khoo highlighted that as crimes are increasingly international and connected,  INTERPOL plays a critical role by bringing its 194 member police agencies together with global programmes covering cybercrime, counter-terrorism and organised/emerging crime. INTERPOL supports the member agencies in areas such as forensic support, capacity building, fugitive investigation support, criminal analysis and police data management.  Mr Khoo also shared the various INTERPOL notice issued, including the well-known Red Notice where its member police agencies would be alerted with regard to wanted persons.

The talk was followed by a wide ranging discussion on the topics of cybercrime and cybersecurity, the history of INTERPOL and the executive structure of INTERPOL.
