Pioneering real-time translation tech saves charity rowers

Dr Sepideh Chakaveh, Course Director of the Undergraduate Advanced Diploma in IT Systems Analysis and Design and Departmental Lecturer in Data Science, AI & Software Engineering at the Department for Continuing Education, played a crucial role in supporting an extraordinary cross-Atlantic, multi-lingual rowing mission.  

Dr Chakaveh and her team created a first-of-its-kind Applied AI communication tool with embedded translation that functions in real time entirely offline, demonstrating the real-world impact of research and innovation in critical situations.
