International search begins for Dean with a radical vision to lead Rokos School of Government

The School – announced in March this year – aims to prepare future leaders to be able to navigate the ever-more-challenging demands of both domestic and international politics in a new and complex world of great structural change.

Speaking at the time of the launch, Chris Rokos said that he wanted the School to be “a unique forum for radical and remarkable thinking, capturing the inspiration of the brightest minds from around the world and harnessing new technologies in order to meet the needs of modern government.”

The University today launches its search for an exceptional leader of international standing to become the Rokos Professor of Government and founding Dean of the Rokos School of Government. The position offers a rare opportunity to establish and shape a new type of school focused on addressing the challenges facing modern government, including technological change, geopolitics, defence, security and environmental crises.

The Dean will provide strategic and academic leadership, setting the School’s vision, research priorities, educational programmes, and external engagement. They will be responsible for building a faculty the brings together people from the arts, humanities and social sciences, science and technology, as well as with experience of government and public leadership.

The search for the Dean will be led by Professor Deborah Prentice, Vice-Chancellor of University of Cambridge.

Professor Prentice said: “The Rokos School of Government will be a place like no other, born out of a necessity to find innovative news ways to tackle the enormous challenges facing our world and to develop new models for future leaders.

“Today we are beginning our search to find an outstanding individual who can bring a radical vision, academic excellence and strong leadership skills. It’s an incredibly exciting opportunity to build and lead a new type of school of government that is not just globally competitive, but genuinely world-leading.”

The Rokos School of Government will be housed in a dedicated new building in the heart of the University’s Cambridge West Innovation District. This will become one of Europe’s strategic locations for science, technology and policy. It will host a growing cohort of PhD and Masters students both in the School and as joint appointments with departments across the University.

To support this teaching and research, the Rokos School of Government will grow a faculty from established academic disciplines – political scientists, economists, historians, scientists, engineers and statisticians, among others – in parallel with which it will recruit experts from government and from senior positions in business, finance and public service.
